The Isle of Man offers a large range of activities and you will always be able to find interesting things to do. Here are a few suggestions:
Angling Charters and Wild Life Trips
Why not join my friend Bob and his boat Gemini on one of his angling or wild life trips round the Calf of Man. Setting off a couple of hundred yards from the cottage and usually lasting approximately 3 hours this is a wonderful way to see our magnificent coastline from the sea as well as the abundant wild life that lives in or around it. Gemini Charter.
Golf
Port St Mary Golf Club is a couple of hundred yards from the cottage. It's a 9 hole course, quite hilly but with lovely views and well liked by those who play it. Telephone 01624 834932
Castletown Golf Links is a very special course set on the Langness peninsular and surrounded by the sea. It's only a short drive from the cottage and is not to be missed. www.castletowngolflinks.com
Rowany Golf Club is in Port Erin - the next village to Port St Mary and is an 18 hole course. Once the club used by Nigel Mansell when he lived on the Island and another course well liked by those who play it. www.rowanygolfclub.com
This is just a sample of the courses nearby. There are 9 courses in total on the island so plenty of variety and Langton Cottage would provide a wonderful base for you.
Walking
The cottage is on the Coastal Path as it meanders through Port St Mary so it's ideally suited for those who are looking for a walking holiday. The island is blessed with fantastic and varied scenery. The Coastal Path is 95 miles long so far too much to describe here but you only need to walk around the Langness peninsular or the well marked path over the tops to Port Erin to begin to appreciate what we have here. www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/paths/coastal
Steam Railway
The nearest station is half a mile away and this links you to Port Erin or Douglas. The railway is unique and is the longest narrow gauge steam line in Britain that still uses its original locomotives and carriages. This is a major attraction for transport enthusiasts and a trip to Douglas can also link you to the Electric Railway that runs north to Laxey from which you can change to the Mountain Railway which takes you up Snaefell or continue on to Ramsey. Southern 100 Motor Cycle Races
As we all know the island is famous for its TT races but it is also very well known for a fabulous race meet that takes place in the south in July. Here the course is much shorter so the bikes are nearly always in sight and the racing is exceptional. Langton Cottage is just 3 miles from the course so provides a great base for visiting fans. www.southern100.com
Diving
The waters around the Island are some of the best in the British Isles and those around Port St Mary and the south are particularly clear and full of interest to the Diver. We are lucky to to have Discover Diving, the Islands only scuba and snorkel centre, right here in Post St Mary so why not explore their Web Site to discover what they have to offer you. They provide courses for the beginner right up to the experienced diver and they also provide activities for children. www.discoverdiving.im
